Projection: need to automatically qualify

Southern Utah’s resume is anchored by a lone neutral-site victory over Stetson and a handful of competitive outings on the road, but it is outweighed by lopsided losses away to Gonzaga and Washington and a string of defeats at Power Five and upper-midwest opponents that signal a struggle to win outside of its own arena. The tight game at Robert Morris and competitive showing at Nebraska Omaha are useful evidence that the team can hang in some hostile environments, yet there are virtually no signature wins away from home or on neutral floors to offset the damaging road blowouts at Gonzaga and Washington and the setbacks at Arizona State and Washington State. The remaining slate against Utah Valley, Cal Baptist, Tarleton State, Abilene Christian, Utah Tech and UT Arlington presents clear opportunities to pile up quality conference results and demonstrate sustained road and neutral-site competence, but until those chances are seized the overall picture will be one of a team with few high-end victories and several bad losses that leave its path to the national field narrow.
